10 years ago today

10 years ago on a day between Christmas and New Years we closed on our first house. We had a moving truck for Dec 30-Jan 2. We were only moving about 20 mins from a townhouse to our first house, and we had some friends who helped load the moving truck, since I had 2 babies to watch, but no friends were available to help UNload the moving truck because it was millenium new years and everyone had parties to go to.

So DH and I decided to do it ourselves. That sofabed was murder! This was before I worked out regularly and I am so thankful for strong arms now when we rearrange furniture! I wish I had them 10 years ago! But, alas, I did not, so emptying that truck took a long time. And DH started getting more and more tired. Suddenly we realized he was burning up with fever!

Brian had about 102 fever and a flu hit that made his joints and muscles achy and tired. We got the living room to a point where the TV, VCR, sofabed and a lamp were set up, and locked everything else in the moving truck. We got some pizza and a bottle of sparkling grape juice. We rented Austin Powers, put the kids to bed, and I think Brian was asleep by 10pm. I woke him up when the “ball was dropping”. Then we both spent many hours asleep.

Jan 1 was spent unpacking the truck as much as possible, and by Jan 2 I had to be back at work. (Brian was a full time student.)

Baby Alice caught his flu. He spent Jan 2 and 3 home with her on a mattress in the dining room (he didn’t have the energy to put her toddler bed together, and I couldn’t move our master bedroom furniture alone.) I was at work and Wendy was at daycare. Alice was just starting to be potty trained, and I guess she was dehydrated from being sick because I would come home at 5:30pm with the 2 of them still curled up on the mattress together and she never wet the mattress once.

May tonight’s New Years EveĀ find everyone healthy, happy and fever-free!
