#100pushups day 2

Last night was karate class. It was the last night we were working with sticks for a few months. My partner was a girl about 9 years old, but tall for her age – about the size of an 11 year old (if that means anything to you moms). She was giggly but trying hard, so it lightened the mood while we both learned more of the basics.

Alice only had a 2 mile run because of her 5k tonight, so she asked to come along. First class is free, and she really wanted to try sticks, so this was her only opportunity for a while – by the time we do sticks again she’ll be in Cross Country season and won’t be interested in extra work outs at night. So she came along and enjoyed it but said it wasn’t much of a workout for her. The first 1/2 hour of stretching reminded her how unflexible she is. I keep saying regular Yoga would help with that. This morning I went to the gym. Friday means core conditioning class, so I came 1/2 hour before class and warmed up on the treadmill, did about 10 mins on the stairmaster, then moved on to the pushup challenge. It was TOUGH today. My schedule was 14…19..14…14…max (19+).

The first 14 were a breeze. Then I did a set of squats. The 19 I felt but got through OK. I did a 2nd set of squats. The next 14 were tough. Then I did a bit of stretching. The next 14 I actualy had to break into 7 and 7 with a rest in between. Not sure how that “counts”. Then I went to do my final 19 and only got 10 in. Then I went to ab class - which always kicks my @$$, in a good way.  Then I usually leave the gym but I knew I had 9 pushups hanging out there so I forced myself to the floor for 9 more. But I only managed 7. Makes me wonder if I should step backwards a week. But I might as well see how day 3 goes. Maybe do week 3 again until I can do it well? Not sure… But I can tell already my arms are going to rock in a month. I feel it in my biceps the most, so I may do one set of triceps on off-days. And I think I should do some lats too.

  1. what’s the inside of your elbow called? You know, where they draw blood… That’s where I feel it the day after.

  2. nice job on your pushups! i feel mine in my tri’s more than my bi’s, but either way my arms need a good workout so i’ll take it.
