Spring Break has come and gone. I haven’t blogged or read a blog in a week! Crazy… But I had lots of fun with my daughters.
We drove down to Ft. Lauderdale for 5 days. We shopped, played mah jongg, saw Alice in Wonderland, shopped, ate, worked out a little, shopped some more. The kids got new shoes, swimsuits and summer clothes. I got some pretty stuff for work and a great maxi dress for summer nights out.
Sunday we drove and had dinner with family. Monday I started the day with a workout. Instead of 10-20-30-40-50, I did a 50-40-30-20-10. I started with 50 jumping jacks, 40 squats/lunges, 30 crunches, 20 reps on biceps (with my mom’s 7 lb dumbells) and 10 triceps. Wash-rinse-repeat. And added a plank.
That afternoon (post shopping – when Alice found Saucony running shorts at Marshall’s really cheap) the girls and I went to the park and Alice did her first barefoot mile. There was a marked mile path around a lake, and I suggested she follow the path in the grass next to it, but she went barefoot on the path. Her only subsequent complaints were about what it did to her skin – she wanted lots of aloe.
That night we met my grandparents for dinner. There are the kids’ great grandparents. We went to Sweet Tomatoes where there is always something for everyone. We stuck a candle in her frozen yogurt and sang happy birthday because her birthday is this week and they won’t see her then.
Tuesday we celebrated Alice’s fake birthday with my mom. Grandma gave her a tshirt and vest from the Avril Lavigne Alice in Wonderland collection at Kohl’s. We saw the 3D Alice in Wonderland. (We were scared the IMAX would make us nauseous, we’re queasy that way). Then we went for Chinese food. (Actually, kosher Chinese food, which is NOT cheap!) We also managed to get a little shopping in.
Wednesday we started the day buying DVDs. My mom has a VCR/DVD combo that records, so I started transferring tapes of my kids onto DVD. If you use a DVD-RW it allows you to make chapters and titles and everything. So now we have a much tinier library of home videos. Boy are DVDs space savers!

Wendy's New Clothes
Wed afternoon was swimsuit shopping day. Wendy likes a 3-pc either with shorts or a shirt to cover up the curves she’s not used to, so she ended up with a 3-pc from Kohl’s on sale 40% off with an additional 10% off in pretty shades of deep blue and purple. Alice got hers from the Juniors dept for the first time, a cute pink plaid tankini. (They also had Sofie’s on sale, so Wendy grabbed a pair of those.) She found the plaid Converse sneakers she’d been wanting at JCP for $10 off. We all <3 Converse.
I did some ab work in front of the TV that night. No real workout. That night was mah jongg night, and I won a hand!
I started Thurs with a yoga workout before anyone else was up. We went to a flea market, which was not full of bargains like we expected. The girls had fun putting different colored streaks in their hair with a mascara-like tool. We found funny mah jongg related gifts, like a toilet seat cover that said “put your crack here”. There were tons of purses and reading glasses.

Alice's new clothes
Thurs night I cooked Brian’s tequila-lime telapia recipe for everyone, but apparently my mom’s stove is very sensitive and I filled the downstairs of the house with smoke. Luckly I did not ruin the food and it was tasty with brown rice, sweet potatoes, peas and salad.
Fri we had a slow morning in front of the TV and ate my mom’s homemade cinnamon rolls. They were full of raisins so Wendy made a smoothie. I think she had a smoothie for breakfast almost every day we were there. We drove home that afternoon – just in time to spend the whole weekend cleaning. So my weekend workout involved vacuuming, dusting, closet cleaning, laundry, etc. (There would have been gardening, but it’s raining.) And now Alice is finishing up a school project and Wendy is asleep on the bathroom floor after throwing up 6 times. I think she is fighting a virus, but perhaps we’ll be lucky and it was just something she ate.
Hopefully I will be back at the gym tomorrow!
