Tired

I keep staying up late, late, late this week. I know it’s bad, and it’s not like me. But little trips here and there are starting and ending, and that means there are photos to edit and work to catch up on. Oh, and the laundry of course!

Photos from recent events include:

Wendy went to Utah with kids from school. They were hiking in Zion National Park. Her camera died after about 4 minutes, so I am gathering pics from other kids online. What gorgeous views they had!

I visited my best friend! Well, she kind of visited me, because she came to Florida. About 18 members of her family met at Walt Disney World, and that’s about a 1.5 hour drive for me, so I met her after last Tuesday’s run, cuz I’m good like that, at around 1pm just as they were returning overheated from the theme park to eat and swim at the hotel. We ate, swam, ate again, and then went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a few hours. I was happy to get her on Tower of Terror and her nephew on Rockin’ Roller Coaster. She took a lot less convincing. And I was laughing my head off as she grabbed my hand screaming! We have not seen each other since her wedding about 11 years ago, and we’ve never met each other’s kids. I got to play with all 4 of her kids, but I arrived solo. Fun afternoon!

Then… I went to NYC, so I had those photos. And had to kind of separate the work ones to show to work folks and the play ones to share with friends and family.

Then… Wendy came home from PARIS! With 3 memory cards full of, well, memories – that I am editing for multiple people.

And next week I have a cousin’s wedding, and Shutterfly has all kinds of photo coupons, so I am using Photoshop as fast as my little fingers will let me.

(Today’s workout was 90 mins core yoga, and tomorrow I’ll run 40 mins with B if it’s not raining. Then I have an OUCHY laser hair removal appointment and packing to do!)

Here is a sampling of recent pics. Click any thumbnail for a full view :)

Taking Turns

…I forgot about one other bit of working out the other day. My daughter is going on a 6 day hiking trip in Mt Zion, so I took her and her best friend for a 2 mile walk in their hiking boots to break them in.

And today I am on vacation, and woke up at 8:12 – and just made it to 8:30 power flow class. Ahhhh yum!

So, about that “Taking Turns” thing your eyes just skimmed over up there…

I think Brian and I take turns getting PMS’ed. Now, obviously he wouldn’t have hormonal fluctuations for the same reasons I do, but it seems like every-other month I have moody time, and in between he has moody time (sympathy induced?)

When one of us gets stressed, thoughts and conversations usually come back around to money. Sometimes it’s like Paul Revere (Oh geez, I almost typed Pierre Cardin) is riding down the street swinging a lantern, shouting, “The Future is coming! The Future is coming!” The future with daughters driving and needing money for college. The future with repairs on the house and minivan. The future with medical bills and hopefully kickass vacations.

So we try to balance: Living in the Moment with The Future is Coming. It’s not always easy.

Sadly, in April, we buried a dear friend. A woman I met as a mommy in my daughter’s class who quickly became a neighbor with an open door. Her future came and went all too soon. All those overtime hours away from her daughter… all that savings sitting in a bank… And my grandparents seem to be the same way – saving for The Future when they could be traveling the world or doting on Great Grandchildren who are already entering high school or paying for weddings as their grandchildren seem to be getting married one by one lately.

But we can’t just say F$^& The Future, right?! We have to maintain that balance of being prepared for it. I mean, I guess we could fill out every single one of those credit card apps we get in the mail each day and spend money right and left that we don’t have and not worry about it because we’ll be dead someday, but that doesn’t seem very realistic. It might be fun to make a movie about it though… and Donald Trump would applaud it. (Dude, fire your stylist and get a hairdresser.)

Over the weekend we were watching the Michael Douglas movie that was a sequel to Wall Street and he called us The NINJA Generation. No Income, No Job, No Assets. That was a new one to me! Cute and catchy, but awfully scary. And certainly not true of many of the people I know. Brian and I always seem to be recreating jobs for ourselves, so there is that…

So, what do you think of this ramble? How can one plan for the future and live in the moment? Is the secret simply to find what makes you happy? If I meditate long enough will it all be clear and these questions will just float away? Or is it this exact amount of searching that keeps life from becoming a bore?

While you chew on that, I’m going to take my vacation day and spend it with my husband and children, the 4 of us finding what will keep us happy in the moment, and probably spend some time discussing the future. And all the while, smiling.

National Running Day

I’m a little disappointed because while I was on my 3 mile run this morning I saw a turtle laying eggs at the park. I stopped to take a photo with my phone, but for some reason it did not save. I ran past that guy 3 times, and I wish I could share his cuteness with you.

Tues I went to Yoga, which is not a typical Tues for me. But with my Mon teacher taking Memorial Day off I shifted things around. I am glad I did because the new Tues teacher was great. I heard about her last year, and met her when I helped organize Energize Tampa Bay, and she remembered me too. She smiles a lot while she is leading the class, which I love. And she wasn’t too esoteric.

Today was the last day of school. My older daughter is at a “trash the uniform” party. After wearing her school uniform for 10 years she gets to wear JEANS to school next year. I imagine polo shirts in rainbow colors are headed our way.

Tomorrow we are taking the day off for some family time before the summer traveling begins and we feel disjointed until Mid-July. I am going to NYC alone and hope to do lots of free yoga in the parks while I am there. I have a schedule spreadsheet because I don’t want to forget anything. I may have found free improv and burlesque too… just maybe.

As the heat picks up around here, I try to find outfits that won’t look sweaty. I really like the new Jockey fabrics that keep you 3 degrees cooler. I would buy ten pairs of running shorts for myself and each daughter to live in until Oct. if that were realistic. Instead we have cute little dresses from Forever XXI.

Sunday is my birthday :) Surprises happening tomorrow!

Tues: 25 min on elliptical, full body weight training. Lots of lunges with 8 lb weights. Don’t forget shoulders and triceps!

Wed: 10 min yoga warmup, 30 min treadmill walk/run, abs.

Also Wed: Academic awards at school. Alice got the Headmasters high Honors award for another year of straight As. Then out to dinner with the girls for my friend Michelle’s birthday. (and almost my birthday…) My top was gold silk, and Wendy said it made me look naked, hehe.

Thurs: 2-3 mi walk with Brian. Alice’s LAST DAY of Middle School!

Brian is putting a team together for Ragnar Relay Tennessee, Nov 2011. I’ll be Team Mom, so all the details will be covered. Who’s up for it?
