Saturday was my friend Meredith’s baby shower. She is having her first baby, it’s supposed to be a girl, and she is due at the end of Jan.

I met Meredith through Ragnar Relay – she captained Brian’s first Ragnar team – and we live pretty close to each other. She is great about remembering to have girls nights and she is ULTRA competitive – we were joking at the baby shower that she needs a dry erase board in the baby’s room so she and her husband can have diaper changing timed competitions!

Someone made a Future Ragnarian onezie for Meredith!

Meredith is doing the baby’s room in yellow, white and grey with a giraffe motif. She got TONS of giraffe stuff at the shower!

As a gift, I made wall art for the baby’s bedroom. One day of Thanksgiving break, Wendy’s art teacher had Open Studio time, and I took the day off of work to spend in the high school art studio working on her gift. The photo of her holding it came out crummy, but here is my digital rough draft. The real thing was on canvas:

Instead of a chipboard for the name, I used a silver frame hanging off the ribbon so they could add a photo or the name, their choice. The yellow giraffes were 3-dimensional.

She received this giraffe teether, which is apparently a HOT item this year.

This is Britt, my morning workout buddy, who was also at the shower. Who wouldn’t want to work out with this fun lady every morning?!

I ordered a brie and apple omelet. The server said I couldn’t go wrong with those flavors, that it was a specialty. It was quite blah – not nearly enough brie and the apples were flavorless. But the chocolate ganache between the layers of giraffe cake was awesome, so that made up for it. I didn’t eat the actual cake.

Brian made a comment today that we had not been to any sort of Oktoberfest this year, and he wanted to make his own for dinner. So we had DecemberFest!

The menu:

  • Beer Brats
  • Chicken Schnitzel – pounded flat, no cheese, marinated in vinegar, dijon mustard, sherry, salt, pepper, onion flakes.
  • Pretzels
  • Potato Dumplings
  • Broccoli (because I insist on a vegetable with dinner. I also had sliced green pepper. They are only $.70 at Target this week!)

There was beer for Brian and mustard for me (I like to dip things). It was quite a treat!

The rest of the meal planning for this week:

Monday: Mostaccioli
Tuesday: I will be with Tampa Bay Bloggers at, so Brian and the kids are having pizza
Wednesday: Brian and I are attending the Tampa Bay Bloggers Swag Swap holiday party at Datz!!
Thursday: The World’s Best Chicken and veggies
Friday: Sauteed shrimp over whole wheat angel hair pasta
Saturday: Jambalaya – sort of like this

December workout challenge update:

Yesterday I did a 95 second forearm plank. Today I did a 75 minute hot power yoga class. Boy did I sweat! The salty pretzels at dinner didn’t even bother me like they normally would. Unfortunately, the teacher I take on Tues/Thurs mornings announced that she won’t be returning. She plans to open her own studio in a few months, but I am curious to see how this Tuesday morning’s class goes!

Have you taken on the December Challenge?
