Giving Thanks

photostripFor some of you, the big winter gift giving holiday may be yet to come. For me it just happened.

Thanksgiving is a big deal in my house. Because we are a religious intermarriage, we avoid the whole winter holiday issue by celebrating Thanksgiving with our kids. They get other presents on other holidays from other family members, but Thanksgiving is just about the 4 of us, and jammies, and talking about what we are truly thankful for, and peanut butter pie, and turkey, and watching the parade.

Apparently I tell them every year that to be a Rockette your legs have to be a specific measurement in inches. Mine fall shy of whatever that may be.

They got much of what they wanted this year.

DD1 – tickets to see Wonderland the Musical. World Premier is right here in Tampa Bay. We’re going tomorrow night! I hope it’s the next Wicked.

DD2 – Vera Bradley lunchbox. I taught her to use Ebay and we got it together.

DD1 & DD2 – and new printer for their PC’s. A day late so we could get an Office Depot Black Friday deal. And boy did we!

DD1 – a new mattress. Her Sleep Number Bed should come in a week.

DD2 – a new aquarium. Hers exploded in a 29 gallon mess of gravel and water the night before Halloween at 3am and took 2 hours and a bit of blood to clean. It’s in and she has 3 fish named for Greek gods and goddesses

Me – a karate gi. My friend Maria gave me a hand-me-down gi because she has a black one. Thanks M! DD1 made me a picture frame necklace. DD2 made me a Thankful Jar. The first one fell and broke so I quickly got a 2nd thankful jar. But really those tix to Wonderland the Musical are for me :)

Brian – we got him a steering wheel cover because his steering wheel is blistering in the sun (yes, hum the song now.) And “The Stick“. He also stocked the bar. I guess that’s for both of us. And DD1 made him a shot glass out of ice. That took some experimenting.

We opened gifts the night before and watched Year One with Jack Black. It was not as good as I wanted it to be. We then pledged to spend Thurs in our PJs all day. The morning started with Brian cooking everyone a very large, very late breakfast – which we ate while watching parades. Then we played Wii. I started dinner. We played Wii. We watched most of a movie. I finished dinner. We ate around 4pm. Sage turkey, sage & sausage whole wheat stuffing, green beans, homemade mashed potatoes – first time I made them with the tabletop mixer and they were so fluffy! And 2 peanut butter pies for dessert. We tried a Reese’s recipe and a Brian recipe. Reese’s won for me. I highly recommend it.

And we did manage to stay in jammies all day. It was so worth it!
