How I work shoulders & Mon/Tues recap

Monday was a full body circuit day. I did 20 min on the Stairmaster and then weight training: walking lunges, lunges with a twist & med ball, squats with weights on BOSU, tricep kickbacks, pull back/squat with band, chest press with band in lunge position, shoulder lifts:
Here’s how I work shoulders – Shoulders are my weak muscle, so I use a low weight, usually 6 lbs in each hand. I stand straight with my feet hip width apart, a weight in each hand, hands down at my sides. Then I lift my hands with palms/weights facing down until they are parallel with the floor. Then I turn my arm (not my wrist, my whole arm) as though pouring from a pitcher of water. Then I turn back, and lower my arms back to my sides. That’s ONE. I do 1 set of 12.

For my second set I do a different exercise. I stand straight with my feet hip width apart, a weight in each hand, hands straight out in front of me, palms/weights faced down. I raise one arm slightly, to eye level, and at the same time lower the other arm about 3x as much, stopping before the weight touches my thigh. Then raise the low arm and lower the raised arm – like scissors. I try to do 16. I usually think about the Karate Kid waxing on and off during this exercise but try not to let my wrist be floppy.

Today I did 1.5 min intervals on the treadmill for 20 mins. So I walked 1.5 mins, ran 1.5 mins, on and off for 20 mins. Then I did 6 mins on this new machine that is a cross between an eliptical and a stairstepper. It feels like you are walking on the moon – very floating. I couldn’t really get into it, it didn’t seem like enough of a workout to me. Then I did a “Yoga for Runners” mp3 I got from http://www.yogadownload.com/. I was curious to see if I could follow a 20 min flow without a visual, so I did not bring the printout I made, I just listened on my headphones. The lady’s voice was great and her explanations were a B+. But if you are brand new to Yoga it would be hard to follow without a visual indicator of what she was talking about.

I baked banana oat muffins with the kids last night. Alice made Banana/sour cherry and Wendy made Banana/Peanut butter. We were out of eggs but this recipe is FINE without the eggs. I added an extra TB of applesauce just in case but it was probably unecessary.

We got in our back-to-school pediatrician appts yesterday. Some shots (not HPV. After my research I’m waiting at least until age 14 for that, maybe longer), some discussion about Wendy not comparing herself to her sister, a comment that we can expect Aunt Flo soon, and thank goodness another year of perfect vision. My parents have terrible eyesight, and I got glasses in 7th grade, but my husband didn’t need glasses until age 30 and his parents until age 55.

Tomorrow I will be at DisneyQuest with Wendy and a friend of hers. Enjoy your day!
