Unintended run

Today was an off day but I came home from the Disney Marathon Weekend so pumped I had to run.
My 11 y.o. daughter said she would run with me. She trained this summer with my husband in our neighborhood so she could tell me a 2-mile run and where the 1/2 mile point was, etc.
We walked from our house for about .25 mis. Then we hit the START. We ran at her pace for 1/2 mi (which is faster than mine). Then we ran at my pace for 1/2 mi. Then we turned around, continued at my pace for 1/2 mi. Somewhere in there we walked for 90 seconds and the last block we walked 60 seconds. Then we ran at her pace until the 1.5 mi mark. Then it was all uphill and she ran ahead at her pace and I jogged and walked at mine and met her at the top of the hill where she held her fake microphone and MC’ed like the DJ at the marathon about me finishing my 2 miles. Then we walked home the .25 miles and talked and laughed together.

I noticed that running without my headphones on allows me to hear my out-of-breath breathing and makes me feel more out of breath. I’ll have to work on that.

We want to do the Disney Princess 5k together, but it is the morning of her birthday party. It would be tough to squeeze in but would be lots of fun!!! And especailly having just come home from the Disney Marathon Weekend, it’s just so tempting. The time, the gas, the money… should WE?????

It’s really not an excuse not to run, because I’d walk a mile and still just do it to be at the innaugural race – but it’s the time, the gas, the money… I’m debating, but leaning towards YES!!

So all in all, today was

2.72 miles in 36 mins.

(that includes the walking warm up and cool down.)

Week 1, Run 2

Today’s workout:

5-minute warmup walk,
Jog 90 seconds
Walk 90 seconds
Run 3 minutes
Walk 3 minutes
Run 90 seconds
Walk 2 minutes
Jog 3 minutes
Walk 3 minutes

I found the couch to 5k 9 week program and modified it down to 7 weeks so I can do a Virtual Princess 5k the weekend of Disney’s Princess Half Marathon 3/6-8/09.

Went around the lake at the park today. Wore my new shoes and socks. 10-20 MPH winds. Felt good. No side stitch. Some right shoulder twitch but probably for less than 30 seconds. The hard part was the 2nd 3 minute run so I took my pace down to a jog. Stretched afterwards, but no other exercise.

Roughly 1.8 miles.

My toes are cozy

Step TWO in my process of going from jogging to running:

I got new running shoes!

I went to an independent running store near me that came in high regards (from my husband and daughter who run – Feet First on 4th Street) and tried on a bunch of stuff. I think I was there 1.25 hours. The manager of the store helped me herself, watched me walk and run, suggested her favorites, discussed budget, etc.
I ended up with Brooks Glycerin and new Balega (non-cotton) socks. I spent over $100 but plan to make it quite worth it.

Right now I am looking silly on my sofa in a Nitesweatz nightgown with the new socks and sneakers, but we need to bond…
